OCU Emergency Management Program Ranks #3

Best Schools has ranked Ohio Christian University’s Emergency and Disaster Management Program #3 among the top 15 programs based on its quality and courses provided, as well as the school’s other awards, rankings, and reputation.

OCU's Emergency and Disaster Management program trains students to lead during disasters. Graduates contribute during every stage of disaster management and recovery, including providing immediate relief and rebuilding and redeveloping communities.

Student Lesli Holt, Operations Manager for Warren County Ohio's Office of Emergency Management, comments that “OCU’s Emergency Management program is helping me enhance my skills and ability to better prepare my county in emergencies and disasters.  As an EM practitioner in the field, I have already used knowledge gained from OCU to improve our plans and processes and have applied perspectives from the Christian worldview learned in each course toward my everyday interactions.”

Dr. Thad Hicks, Director of OCU's Emergency and Disaster Management Program, explains, “As the field of Emergency Management grows, our program is responding to identified needs and focusing our courses on them.  An OCU degree in Emergency and Disaster Management readies students for an established and exciting profession, and prepares them for one of the emerging “new missions” techniques taking place around the world."

Each year Ohio Christian University conducts a Scholars Day where applicants compete for over $300,000 worth of scholarships. Scholars Day provides an opportunity to compete for the Creative Communities Scholarship, the Ohio's Future Scholarship and the Homeschool Excellence Scholarship, which are each worth $50,000 and guarantee a coveted internship position. Also awarded is OCU’s highest scholarship, the Distinguished Trailblazer Scholarship, which covers all tuition costs for a four year degree. On Friday, March 8th, State Representative Rick Carfagna (Chair, Finance Subcommittee on Higher Education) visited Ohio Christian University (OCU). He was welcomed to the president’s office by Dr. Jon Kulaga (President), Ted Perry (Chief Financial Officer) and Craig Brown (Chief Relationship Officer) where the group discussed multiple partnerships related to micro-credentialing, entrepreneurship and workforce development for regional incumbent industry. The January 23rd Chapel Service included a time of recognition for students who achieved a 4.0 grade point average during the fall semester. Dr. Hank Kelly, Provost, presented each awardee with a coffee mug loaded with candy. Fellow Trailblazers cheered on their peers and helped recipients celebrate their successes. Over 60 students were awarded. 4.0 Student Rachel Hicks says, “Last semester was my first semester taking strictly pre-law courses, it was really tough. Ohio Christian University’s April 28 commencement filled the sunny, still chilly, spring day as 392 students graduated in two sessions from the University’s on-campus and online degree programs.  The entire class of 2018 numbers 770. Participants in the commencement represented twenty-four states.  The oldest graduate was 73 years old; the youngest was 20.  Of those present, one hundred and eleven received associate degrees; two hundred and fourteen received bachelor degrees; and, sixty-seven received master degrees. Ohio Christian University graduates celebrated their Commencement on Saturday, April 7, at Divine Faith Church in Jonesboro, Georgia. One hundred and thirty-three graduates received their degrees from President Jon S. Kulaga and Vice President Bradford Sample. Georgia Senator Emanuel Jones spoke about how Jesus is the ‘game changer’ and challenged graduates to seek to be like Him.
