Disaster Management Graduate Making a Splash in Private Sector Emergency Management

 Josh Delph had no idea as he walked across the stage to receive his degree in Disaster Management and Relief that he would end up where he is today.  Josh is currently the Environmental Field Service Supervisor with Clean Harbors.  Clean Harbors is a leading provider in environmental, energy and industrial services throughout North America.  The company responds to over 3 thousand emergencies each year and serves the majority of the Fortune 500 companies, numerous federal, state, provincial and local governmental agencies, and through its Safety-Kleen subsidiary, over 200,000 small and medium sized businesses.As the field service supervisor, Josh is responsible for the supervision of multiple individuals as well as ensuring all health and safety requirements are followed.  Josh credits his position with the knowledge and skills he acquired while at Ohio Christian University.  Josh stated, “I was initially imagining a career in governmental service, but I think I have found my niche.”While many of those seeking a degree in Disaster Management plan on going to work with faith-based organizations or the government, there is also the large and often untapped private sector.  As businesses grow and expand, the importance of safety for their workers and continuity of operations during an emergency event becomes more vital.  Colleges and university’s training tomorrows Emergency and Disaster Managers need to look broadly at the field, which includes the private sector.  Delph added, “Ohio Christian University has been an industry leader in this area since starting their Disaster Management degree program.
