Emergency and Disaster Management Field Continues to Grow image

Emergency and Disaster Management continues to be one of the fastest growing fields in the world according to U.S. News & World Report.  Over the past 10 years, the field has moved from approximately four university and college programs to currently more than 150.  Colleges and universities are adding these programs because the market requires trained and capable individuals to fill job openings.  Emergency and Disaster Management is a broad term for a career path with nearly endless growth potential.  According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job growth in this area will be an eight to 10 percent through 2020.

While this degree path can stand alone, OCU takes it a step further. The Emergency and Disaster Management program at OCU is housed within the School of Business and Government.  Students who graduate from OCU with a B.A. in Emergency Management will also receive a B.A. in Business, which makes them twice as marketable to future employers.  Emergency and Disaster Management Director, Dr. Thad Hicks stated, “OCU continues to be a trendsetter; we recognized early on that emergency managers needed more business insight to be successful.”  Hicks added, “The Dean of the School of Business and Government, Dr. Dave Garrison, as well as OCU’s administration have a good feel for the business world, and this is OCU’s focus, in order to better prepare our graduates.” This multifaceted program also offers opportunities for Christian ministry.  Emergency and Disaster Management not only prepares the students for an established and exciting profession, but it is also one of the emerging mission fields around the world.

God is doing great things, and Emergency and Disaster Management is one of them. OCU is excited to be a part of training-up the next generation of world-impacting, Christ-following, servant leaders.  OCU offers flexible, online degree programs in Emergency and Disaster Management, as well as a traditional, four-year program with a business double major.
