The first two scholarships were awarded to graduate business students for their performance on the comprehensive business exam taken as part of the initial course of the graduate business programs. Scholarships were awarded to Ashlee Dickson and Michael Small.Ashlee received her scholarship for achieving the highest score on the exam for students taking the test during the 2012-2013 scholarship period. She graduated from Denison University in 2012 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree, and is the assistant manager at The Groveport Recreation and Aquatic Center. Ashlee commented about her experience in the MBA program at OCU. “The flexibility and schedule of the MBA hybrid program at OCU has allowed me to continue working, while at the same time continuing my education. Since I started classes at OCU in February, I have not only greatly expanded my knowledge, but done so in an environment that promotes and fosters ethics and integrity. Being at OCU has been an enriching opportunity for me and the diversity of backgrounds within the classroom environment has benefited my learning experience by providing quality discussions and group thinking that is beyond that of a traditional classroom.”The second scholarship was awarded based on a random drawing of students scoring above average or higher on the exam. This scholarship was awarded to Michael Small. Michael is a member of MBA01 - the first onsite MBA cohort at OCU. Michael is a graduate of Muskingum University with a Bachelor's of Arts degree, majoring in Accounting; Business Economics and with a minor in Political Science. He currently works as an accountant. OCU’s graduate business programs do not require an undergraduate degree in a business discipline. In an effort to prepare students to complete the program successfully, the first course in both the MBA and Masters of Management programs provides students baseline knowledge of the disciplines covered within the programs. The comprehensive exam is administered as a way to determine if the course is meeting those objectives, and is not a graded assignment. While the vast majority of OCU graduate students taking the exam demonstrate an average understanding of the various concepts, during the past year 18% of the OCU graduate business students taking the exam scored in the above average or higher range – validating the success of the course to prepare students for the overall program.
