OCU President Jon Kulaga Addresses the Student Body at Academic Convocation

Inspiring Convocation Begins New Adventure

On Thursday, August 31st, Ohio Christian University’s students, including the incoming freshman class, convened in the Maxwell Center auditorium to celebrate the beginning a new journey of learning.

OCU’s new 11th president Dr. Jon S. Kulaga engagingly addressed the entire campus community—students, faculty, and staff—focusing on what it means to live in a learning community and the challenges of living as a Christian in the larger community of the nation and the wider world.

His message underscored the importance of gaining a faith-based higher education as opposed to a ‘fast, cheap, and easy’ education as a ‘ticket’ to a job. Explaining how the world needs more people who know how to ‘walk the talk’ in leading lives grounded in the teachings of Jesus Christ and to demonstrate leadership in the many vocational paths they take in making the world better.

For President Kulaga, Ohio Christian University—grounded in the person and work of Jesus Christ—provides each student with an opportunity to undertake a transformative journey, an adventure along a more difficult path “outside the silos” of traditional majors, that focuses on biblical values and standards, on thinking critically, and applying discernment in how to lead a truly Christian life through the lens of a Christian worldview.
