RICHMOND, IN - The Ohio Christian Trailblazer Women's Cross Country team traveled out to Richmond, IN this past Saturday to compete in the River States Conference Championship Race hosted by Indiana University East. This meet featured 13 of the RSC schools with 95 runners among the crowd. After a long season, this is where everyone comes to compete for not only a chance to hoist that RSC Championship banner, but also for a chance to compete on the National stage in the NAIA National Championship held in Vancouver, Washington.

The Lady Trailblazers competed in this race with five runners. The first Blazer to place was senior Brittany Lenz and she came out and ran a 21:32.7 pacing herself at 4:19/k. This time put her in 29th place out of 95 runners. The second fastest OCU competitor racing the 5k was Kayla Day. Day put up a time of 22:36.7 with a pace of 4:31/k.

Piper Dowd came in third on the Trailblazer team placing 65th on the day running a 23:46.1 with a pace of 4:44/k. The last two Lady Blazers to go compete in this best of the best Conference matchup were Acacia May and Gracie Lanier. Acacia went out a ran a 29:03 for her 5k with a 5:49/k pace, while Gracie ran up a time of 32:50.7.

I caught up with Coach Courtney Brown after the meet about this relentless women's team. This is what she had to say, "You said it right. This team has been relentless throughout the entire season. Even if they were to go out and run a race below their potential, they never gave up and continued to become better and better so that when they competed again, it would be a different story. I'm proud of where these girls got to mentally and excited to see what they can do next season."

Even though the Lady Trailblazers did not make it to Nationals, they proved to themselves that anything is possible if you put your mind to it and continue to work at your craft.
