Follow Christ, Lead the Way

ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, IN - For the second match of the weekend, the Lady Trailblazers took to St. Mary of the Woods College near Terre Haute, IN with a match time slated for Noon today. After a tough loss yesterday, this would be a slightly easier matchup for the Blazers, though the match did not end in the way they would have liked.

The first set a close one the entirety of the set as both the Pomeroys and the Blazers kept trading serves every couple points. SMWC slowly started to pull away toward the end of the match and finished it of 21-25. The Trailblazers had slightly less attack attempts than the Pomeroys and also had slightly less Kills as well.

The Pomeroys seemed like they were going to run away with the match as the Trailblazers began looking sluggish, but the final score of the set only ended up a 9pt deficity, being 16-25. The low numbers of called attack errors tremendously helped SMWC pull away and broaden the score differential. Unfortunately the Lady Trailblazers could not overcome the unforced errors.

In the third set, the Blazers started to wake up and seemed much more energized as they lead for the majority of the set. Although they were much more alert and attacking much better than the previous two sets, ultimately St. Mary's defeated them with a final set score of 20-25.

I asked sophomore Allie Thompson what her thoughts on the match were and she had this to say, "This was a narrative of waking up too late in the game and showing up in the third set when we were far behind the 8 ball. The energy in the third set should have been the energy from the jump and it just didn't happen. Something to work on for our next match."

The Lady Trailblazers hit the court again next Friday and Saturday as they travel to IU-Southeast and Midway University with match times at 7pm and Noon EST respectively.
