KOKOMO, IN – Riding a two game win streak and a full week of rest, the Ohio Christian University Lady Trailblazers faced off against the Cougars of Indiana University Kokomo on Saturday. Despite seeing five players finish in double figures, the Lady Trailblazers fell short on the road, dropping the matchup 89-76.
Through three quarters, Ohio Christian dominated most of the game. After trailing early in the first half, the Lady Trailblazers outscored the Cougars 42-36 in the second and third quarters to carry a three point lead into the final 10 minutes.
Indiana University Kokomo's offense, powered by Tia Chambers, came alive in the final quarter, as a 26 point team effort on top of a solid defensive ending sealed the victory for the Cougars. Six Cougars finished the day in double figures, led by Chambers' 20 points and 16 rebounds.
For Ohio Christian, Staci Pertuset (SR/West Union, OH) led the way with 21 points while Rachel Gillum (FR/Springboro, OH) scored 16 points to go with 11 rebounds. Logan Stidham (FR/Marysville, OH) came in off the bench to provide 11 points.
"We had really good stretches of basketball today," said Head Coach Brenda Baker. "Unfortunately, we had a lot of things not go our way. We gave up too many offensive boards. We now need to get back on the floor and in the film room to continue to grow and get better."
Ohio Christian will have little time to recover, as they have a three game stretch over the next week, beginning Tuesday with a road trip to Midway University.
