Follow Christ, Lead the Way

PITTSBURGH, PA – Wrapping up the regular season and looking ahead to the conference tournament, the Lady Trailblazers battled the Pioneers of Point Park University on Saturday. After defeating the Pioneers at home on Senior Night in January, Ohio Christian could not complete the season sweep in a 92-88 road loss in Pittsburgh.

After a close opening quarter, the Pioneers jumped ahead in the second by using a 25-15 run to build a 12-point halftime lead. Following the break, the Lady Trailblazers responded with a run of their own, cutting the deficit to five entering the final 10 minutes.

OCU's offense continued to produce in the final quarter, however Point Park's offense did the same, as a 29-point fourth quarter by the Lady Trailblazers was not enough to stop the hot handed Pioneers. Point Park ended the day shooting an even 50% from the field and 53.8% from 3-PT.

OCU's leading scorer Staci Pertuset (SR/West Union, OH) once again led her squad with 25 points and nine rebounds, followed by 15 points off the bench from Logan Stidham (FR/Marysville, OH). As a team, the Lady Trailblazers shot a respectable 43.4% from the field, short of PPU's high percentage.

Finishing the regular season 18-11 overall and 8-8 in River States Conference play, the Lady Trailblazers will now prepare for the quarterfinal round of the RSC Championships. Entering the postseason as the #3 seed out of the East, OCU will travel to take on the West division's #2 seed, the Eagles of Midway Univeristy. Tip time is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
