Follow Christ, Lead the Way

CIRCLEVILLE, OH – Looking to further his impact on the OCU community following his second year on campus, Zach Maynard decided early this Spring that he was being called to a unique position: President of Student Council. After wrestling with the idea and lots of prayer, Maynard decided to enter the race, leading to him being elected earlier this month.

"When deciding to run as Student Council President, I first found the idea as daunting. It was a stomach-turning feeling that felt as if I was supposed to go after the position, but the fear of failure was telling me to not follow through," said Maynard. "After taking some time to think and pray about running, I came to the realization that I needed to attempt to fulfill my calling to be a leader. I want to make a significant impact on the students, administration, and the culture at OCU. I want to shed light on the premise that our opportunities are limitless when we work together."

Maynard came to OCU to study business and join the Trailblazer Track and Field and Cross Country programs. Originally from Canal Winchester, OH, the decision to commit to Ohio Christian came about easily. As a member of the track program, Zach participates in middle distance events ranging from the 800m to the 5k.

Entering the Fall of 2020, Maynard will now add Student Body President to his list of duties, one which he will not take lightly. "Although there are many different areas at OCU that I will aim to develop, my overall goals will be to make the Student Council known to the student body and earn their respect, set constant S.M.A.R.T goals that we can accomplish, and most importantly make Christ the sole focus of the council and show His love to students. This will be the overall focus of this year as Student Council will be building a foundation for the future years to come."

Maynard's main responsibility as President of Student Council will be to represent the Student Council to University Administration and the Student Body of Ohio Christian University. Other duties will include speaking in student chapels and facilitating council meetings and council-sponsored programs.

In addition to the Council's main goals, Maynard also stated the group has hopes to collaborate with other clubs and organizations on campus to help them flourish, plan wellness events and set up an easily accessible mental health aid resource through OCU, and to create a better planning schedule for events on campus that works around student athlete's schedules as much as possible.

"We can accomplish so much with a supportive and diverse community that works in a constant state of building each other up. To simply put it, I have a vision to unite the people at OCU in a way that the success of the university will be driven by the mere quality of unity in Christ."
