CIRCLEVILLE, OH – Following 12 seasons as a head coach at Ohio Christian University, Josh Murton has decided to step away from the men's soccer program, effective immediately.
"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve at Ohio Christian University over these last 12 years with both the men's and women's soccer programs," said Murton. "I have been humbled and blessed to impact and be impacted by so many people over the years. I must thank my Lord and Savior for all he has done for me over my coaching career at OCU. I also want to thank my family for all the support over the years. To my players both present and past, thank you for all that you put into this program. Finally, I want to thank the OCU community for their support and guidance throughout the years. I am so excited to see this program continue to grow and thrive."
Over his time at Ohio Christian, Murton has served as head coach of both the men's (2008-19) and women's (2009-14) programs, accumulating a total of 154 combined wins.
Murton came to Ohio Christian in 2008, starting out as head coach of the men's program. Prior to the university's move to the NAIA, Murton helped OCU win 10 or more games every year and took the men to two NCCAA DII national finals.
In 2009, Murton helped launch the women's program while still coaching the men. He led the Lady Trailblazers to NCCAA DII regional championships in 2013 and 2014. He finished his tenure as the women's head coach in 2014.
Coach Murton served in the NCCAA as Vice-National Chairman for Men's Soccer in 2012-2014, stepping down in 2014 due to the university moving to the NAIA. He also served as Women's soccer regional Chairman in 2009-2011.
"Josh has been a wonderful mentor and coach within our athletic program for a long time," said Director of Athletics David Bireline. "His contributions to both men's and women's soccer over the years have helped grow the programs to where they are today."
Ohio Christian will immediately begin the search process for the next head coach of the men's soccer program.
