The January 23rd Chapel Service included a time of recognition for students who achieved a 4.0 grade point average during the fall semester. Dr. Hank Kelly, Provost, presented each awardee with a coffee mug loaded with candy. Fellow Trailblazers cheered on their peers and helped recipients celebrate their successes. Over 60 students were awarded.
4.0 Student Rachel Hicks says, “Last semester was my first semester taking strictly pre-law courses, it was really tough. I worked extremely hard to achieve a 4.0 and it feels really good to have accomplished this.”
Kevin Bennie, Director of Spiritual Formation, conducted the remainder of the service, stating it was time to have a family meeting. Bennie stated that in many ways, we are a family and that faculty and staff spend hours upon hours at the university, investing in the lives of the students. He then reviewed the university mission statement and reiterated that our faculty and staff go the extra mile so that students are prepared to serve in the church and society, and that chapel is one of those vital times we corporately gather together as a faith community.
The university chapel worship team closed the service with a time of dynamic worship.
Chapels are held every Monday and Wednesday at 10:00am and are open to staff, faculty and students to engage in worship and learning together.

Two Scholars Win Full-Ride Scholarship to University

Ohio Christian University’s Scholars Day competition for the first
Commitment to Excellence full-ride scholarships has successfully concluded,
and we are proud to announce that Mike Conway and Hannah Skaggs have been
selected as the scholarship recipients.
After three rounds of interviews, these two outstanding students received the
highest marks and were personally awarded by Phil Hooks, the Vice President
of Enrollment, with their scholarship certificate and an official scholarship
award letter from President Smith. The Scholars Day panelists were thoroughly
impressed by all of the

The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation has granted 7 years
of accreditation to the Teacher Education Program at Ohio Christian
University, the highest award the organization allows. The current
Accreditation has been granted at the initial-licensure level for all major
concentrations OCU offers at the undergraduate level for Teacher Education
Preparation.
CAEP Accreditation is granted when the Accreditation Council determines that
an Educator Preparation Provider (EPP) meets all CAEP Standards, even if
areas for improvement (AFIs) are identified in the final

Thinking positively will greatly enhance your life and how God can use you.
Norman Vincent Peale’s The Power of Positive Thinking had a significant
impact on my life while I was in high school.
As I read this influential book, I resolved to think positively about
everything to which I put myself. I aimed to attend the U.S. Air Force
Academy. Therefore, I applied, was accepted, and graduated four years later.
My positive thinking helped me succeed!

If asked a year ago if she would ever consider going on a mission trip to
Cambodia, OCU sophomore Sophia Donaldson would have exclaimed, “You were
crazy!” Yet, today, Sophia with 12 other adventurous students is set to
be on mission in Cambodia, May 29th through June 12th, 2018.
Unlike some participants, Sophia has felt a clear calling from God to
undertake this mission. Playing guitar since age ten, but not serious about
it until this year, Sophia strongly feels God wants her to go to Cambodia and
play music for the people. It’s that simple and clear. Despite initial

Clarissa Crowley, one of the first Adolescence to Young Adult Education (AYA)
Mathematics majors at Ohio Christian University, set her sights high when she
decided to major in STEM education to transform young lives.
Serving as a ‘guinea pig’ for the new AYA curriculum with its advanced,
yet enticing, and rigorous materials, Crowley’s goal for herself is not
only propelling her into the future, but also enabling her to demonstrate
faith-based leadership to her peers.
