Ohio Christian University was happy to host Donna Rice Hughes Monday, April 15th in both chapel and as a Distinguished Speaker in the School of Business and Government. Rice Hughes is the President and CEO of Enough Is Enough and has been working since 1994 as a pioneering leader on the frontlines of U.S. efforts to make the Internet safer for children and families. Her three-pronged strategy connects the technology industry, the public, and the legal community in helping protect children online. She was awarded the 2013 Women In Technology Award for Social Impact as well as the 2014 Professional Women In Advocacy Award for "Veteran Practitioner."
In the chapel service, Rice Hughes encouraged students through her testimony, repeating many times that God redeems brokenness as she has seen that in her own life. She challenged students to pray about the things they were going through and their struggles. During her talk in the School of Business and Government, she talked more in-depth about the rules and legislation regarding Internet safety. Students were surprised to learn about the legislation or lack thereof regarding the Internet.
Internet safety is something that everyone needs to be aware of, and Rice Hughes is a huge advocate of the practices that not only help prevent abuse but also find a solution for the things already published online. With a firm Christian foundation, Rice Hughes continues to help lead the way in Internet legislation in the hopes of a safer future for generations to come.
