Ohio Christian University is pleased to welcome government officials, teachers and the public to its 2019 Education Summit on Nov 15. The purpose of the summit is to bring in education stakeholders to discuss Ohio’s new strategic education plan “Each Child, Our Future” and the next steps moving forward. The event will be held in Ohio Christian’s Ministry & Performing Arts Center from 9am to 2pm.
Dr. Valerie Jones, Department Chair of Teacher Education Department first envisioned hosting an education summit after attending a smaller meeting with Shaun Yoder, Chief Strategy Officer and Director of External Partnerships for the Ohio Department of Education. Yoder was also part of the Plan Development Oversight Team and helped write the new plan.
“I thought,” Jones said, “‘why couldn’t we – having this wonderful campus and this brand new [Ministry & Performing Arts Center] – have something like an education summit here on our campus and invite all the stakeholders and have an honest talk about where are we are going and how we are going to get there together.’”
The 2019 Education Summit will bring together stakeholders from Ohio and Washington, D.C. who will sit for panel discussions on important topics including the state of school funding and the future of education. Noteworthy attendees and participants include State Superintendent Paolo DeMaria from the Ohio Department of Education, Representative Ron Hood (District 78), Representative Gary Scherer (District 92), David Clossen from the Family Research Council, and Central Ohio District Director Jason Knox as a representative from Senator Rob Portman’s office.
“Everybody I’ve talked to, including the State Superintendent, is extremely excited about this,” Jones said. “This is the first time I think that anybody has met about this new education plan in this way. My hope is that something starts here and goes out.”
The event is free and open to the public. Those interested in attending may register here.
