Ohio Christian University recently announced two new concentrations in the Bachelor of Arts in Business degree for students in the Adult & Graduate Studies program. The new concentrations are in Health Information Technology (HIT) and Digital Multi-Media Production (DMM).
The new HIT concentration prepares students for a role in healthcare that bridges the gap between clinical providers and patients. The concentration consists of four courses including an introductory course on health information systems, laws and ethics pertaining to HIT, the fundamentals of the IDC coding system, and a course on electronic health records. Students pursuing this course work will be exposed to technology used and maintained in the health industry and learn how to medically code diagnosis’s and procedures.
Adjunct Professor Jenny Evans, the primary writer for the concentration said, “This discipline allows the student to have many options to find their niche within healthcare without having to be in direct patient care.”
For those who would prefer to stay out of the medical field, the DMM concentration may be a better fit. This concentration prepares students to be business and media professionals with skills needed to advance in an increasingly digital world. The concentration consists of four courses including graphic design, audio production, video production, and web design. Students in these courses will be trained to use “industry standard” software such as Adobe, including Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
Jon Tomlinson, the Director of Business Programs emphasized the benefits of the concentration saying, “digital multi-media is certainly a growing field, both in the number of job opportunities and in the areas where graduates can now find positions.”
The career flexibility and versatility of both of these programs, combined with a quality education taught from a Christian worldview, prepares Ohio Christian students to be competent professionals in their desired field.
