Students Relax at Fall Fest image

On Oct. 28, Ohio Christian University students gathered in a sea of flannels and costumes to celebrate the annual Fall Fest. The event, hosted by the Student Involvement Council, is a time for students to gather and celebrate fall together in the final months before winter.

The celebration included several outdoor games and activities. Some students tested their aiming skills in archery while others faced off against each other in a game of cornhole. Other activities included 9 Square, Spikeball, and KanJam. Spiritual Formation Director Kevin Bennie also provided a hayride throughout campus.

A delicious outdoor picnic was provided by Hallmark, including hot dogs, burgers, and other sides. Meanwhile, the Summit, a mission organization on campus, set up a booth serving caramel apples as they informed students about upcoming mission opportunities.

The Student Involvement Council held games throughout the event. During a game called “Wrap it Up,” students were given the task to wrap their partner in toilet paper to see who could finish in the fastest amount of time. Another game titled “Defying Gravity” challenged students to keep three balloons in the air the longest.

In a pie eating contest, four students rose to the challenge against last year’s reigning champion, Dean Joe Wuest. Although they devoured the pies at a rapid rate, they still were not fast enough to defeat Wuest.

Finalists of this year’s costume contest were Danielle Douglas (’22) who dressed as “Joy” from “Inside Out,” Deborah Wire (’21) who dressed as “Kim Possible,” and Hailey Smith (’22) who dressed as “Jack Skellington.” Douglas received the most applause, making her the victor.

Musical entertainment was provided by Todd Sullivan and Jordy Searcy. Sullivan performed the concert’s opening act, drawing the students in with more popular worship songs before introducing them to his original upbeat music.

Jordy Searcy, an artist from Nashville, was the concert’s main event. As he performed songs about real-life issues and living life in your 20’s, Searcy made a great connection with the students. During the concert, he joined the crowd off-stage, filming live videos and performing up-close.

The Fall Fest typically takes place shortly after midterms week, one of the busiest times of the semester for students. Every year, it serves as a reminder that it is important to slow down and enjoy life, even in the midst of a chaotic schedule.
