Trailblazers Set to Launch Esports Program

The Ohio Christian University Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the launch of an Esports program under the leadership of Head Coach Michael Baker. Recruiting for the 2019 Fall season will begin immediately.

"We are very excited to see another program begin that will draw quality student athletes into the university," said David Bireline, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. "Michael is the perfect person to build this program from the ground up. Esports is quickly emerging as a leader in collegiate athletics, and we feel it is a great fit for our institution."

Esports has quickly burst onto the scene of collegiate athletics as a quality option for institutions of all sizes. The program will have a designated space on campus to practice and host tournaments. Ohio Christian will also be applying for official membership into NACE, the collegiate Esports governing body.

"I am excited to help launch the Esports program because I have a passion for video games and passion for helping young adults become better people in real life and in their relationship with Christ," said Baker. "I have always wanted to tie video games into ministry, so when this opportunity presented itself, I jumped on it and knew it was something that God was behind and wanted me to pursue. I'm also very excited to work with the administration to develop this new program!"
