The 2019 Summer Institute took place on June 3-7. The Ohio Christian University Teacher Education Department partnered with Circleville City Schools, Pickaway County Board of Developmental Disabilities, and Pickaway County ESC to design an institute that would benefit many educators.
Courses offered for graduate credit included Trauma Informed Care Training II, Orton-Gillingham Training, and Google Classroom Training.
The Ohio Christian University Teacher Education Department believes in providing excellent and effective professional development for the teachers and the school districts they work with and beyond. They were excited with the new partnerships formed this summer and are looking forward to next summer and offering more courses.

invited and inducted into its membership through the Alpha Iota Sigma Chapter
of Ohio Christian University.
The initiation ceremony took place on April 9, 2019 at The Ministry and
Performing Arts Center. The ceremony opened with Dr. Hank Kelly, Provost at
Ohio Christian University, giving the welcome and prayer. Dr. Ann Shelly, of

I am currently working at New Beginnings Christian school in Columbus Ohio,
teaching first grade. There are countless times I refer back to my education
while in the classroom. It is so encouraging to know that I still have a
great support system at OCU, I know that if I ever needed anything they would

Students serve in Paraguay with WGM

Ohio Christian University students had the opportunity to go on a mission
trip this year to Paraguay as one of OCU’s WGM Task Force Teams. Andrea
Williamson, Student Involvement Director for WGM, led the team and stayed
with them through the duration of the trip.
“I knew right away that this was the team God planned for me to lead.
There were no lightening bolts, no clear direction other than this was the

The university team members consisted of five students: Austin Caldwell,
Barbee Graves, Haley Robbins, Austin St. Pierre, and Kiirsten Truex. Raising

Valerie Jones Leads Teacher Education Program to New Heights

Valerie Jones says she never expected to be in an administrative role as an
educator, but is looking ahead to the future in hopes she can continue making
a positive impact on students' lives.
The former Southeastern High School teacher now serves as department chair of
the teacher education program at Ohio Christian University, where she has
been employed since last July, and has been instrumental in improving the
department as a whole. Jones, who is working on her doctorate degree at
Marshall University, resides on a farm just outside of Chillicothe with her
husband.

chair Valerie Wilson, the Teacher Education program experienced accelerated
growth, quickly becoming the second largest program at OCU. That growth will

At Ohio Christian University, we strive to cultivate an attitude of
gratitude in our students, and as the school year started we wanted to take a
moment to thank our community’s teachers. So last week, Ohio Christian
University’s teacher education students showed their thanks to Pickaway
County’s educators as they formed an assembly line to package nearly 650
gifts of appreciation for every teacher in the county.
