OCU Men's Soccer Win Season Opener
The men's soccer program started the '08 campaign with something that few others have done in the past. Win their first game. The men traveled to Southern State C.C. and started scoring early. 4 minutes into the game Emmanuel (E-man) Harris scored on a ball from Jimmy Galvan. 4 minutes later, Emmanuel returned the favor to Jimmy by sending him a ball and Jimmy scoring. The Trailblazers finished the scoring for the half when Harris was taken down in the penalty box. A penalty kick resulted and Harris notched his second goal of the game.
The second half took a bit more time to see a score. In the 78th minute, Dexter Chapman scored on a cross from Brett Spriggs. Two minutes later the same two connected and OCU went up 5-0 on a second goal from Chapman.
Southern State was not going to be denied the opportunity to score and scored in the 87th minute to rob the Blazer men of a shut out.
"It's a good start", commented Coach Josh Murton. "We've got some work to do, but we will take this. Our focus now is to tighten the screws and win #2 against Taylor."
The OCU men are 1-0-0 now and will play a scrimmage at Muskingum College this Thursday at 5 PM. Their next regular season game is at Taylor University on 9/11/08 at 2 PM.
