In response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) international outbreak, Ohio Christian University (OCU) has taken strides to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and faculty through a variety of measures, including moving classes online and canceling events on campus. The health and safety of our OCU family is our utmost concern and we’re committed to doing all that we can to ensure that we follow the guidelines set out by our state and national leaders in response to this developing situation.

Our athletics programs are part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the River States Conference (RSC). The RSC released the following statement on March 12, 2020, regarding the suspension of conference activity:

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- The River States Conference has suspended all athletic-related activities including all competition, informal or organized practice, and participation in NAIA championships effective March 13 at noon through March 31st.  Further direction will be provided as soon as it is available.

For the health and safety of RSC student-athletes, coaches, support staff, and the general public, the RSC Commissioner and Council of Presidents feel this is the best course of action at this time.

The RSC will continue to monitor COVID-19 developments, and leadership will work closely with our member institutions to determine the best path forward for future competition.

The River States Conference features 12 member institutions from five states – Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The RSC sponsors championships in 17 sports throughout the year.

To ensure that information provided to all staff, faculty, students, family members, and community members be the most up to date, Ohio Christian University launched a Center for Coronavirus Updates on the university website. We encourage you to visit often as the content is being frequently updated.

As a senior, I often hear excited, uncertain freshmen asking: "Excuse me, do you know where Room CE201 is?”, "Have you ever had Professor X?", "Is she as intimidating as everyone says?", "How do I know what to major in?", "Why doesn't this guy who seems perfect for me text me back?" My answers, respectively, are:  “Yes, yes, and yes. But, she's awesome. Don't worry. You will figure it out. I am not one to give ‘guy advice’, but maybe God is telling you he isn't ‘the one’?” Such questions go on and on. One thing remains: No matter what your class at the start of a new school year,

Legacies that matter are connected with people. A hundred years from now all that will matter is the people that you connected with in such a way that you added value and meaning to their lives. Political commentator Walter Lippmann said, “The final test of a leader is that he leaves behind in others the conviction and will to carry on.” Ultimately, if your people can’t do it without you, you haven’t been successful in raising up other leaders. We have all heard that “when the student is ready, the teacher appears.” I also believe that when the teacher is ready, the student appears.
