Ohio Christian University Players Honored During Regional Tournament

The Ohio Christian University women's volleyball team traveled to Knoxville, Tenn., last weekend for the NCCAA Mid-East Region Tournament.
Three players received All-Region honors for the 2007 season. Marlaina Shotsky was named MVP and led the first-team votes. Shotsky received the honors for the second straight year. Senior setter Whitney Pontius also was awarded with a first-team selection. Sophomore Brittany Martin was named to the second team, as well.

Seeded No. 1 heading into the tournament, the Trailblazers defeated Appalachian Bible College in a tough five game match Friday, and then later defeated host Johnson Bible College in four games. On Saturday, OCU faced a tough No. 3 seed in Crown College, but the Blazers came out victorious in four games.

In the championship game, Ohio Christian matched up against No. 2 seed and defending regional champions, Kentucky Christian University.
The Trailblazers played hard, but in the end KCU defeated OCU in three games, 24-30, 21-30, 26-30.

Brittany Martin led the Blazers in the championship match with 15 kills, while Shotsky finished with 13 kills. The OCU women's volleyball team
finished the season 21-9 overall, a school record. It also went undefeated in regular season regional play, finishing 12-0 (also a school record) in the region before the tournament, with their only regional loss coming in the championship game of the tournament.
