PITTSBURGH, PA – Traveling on one day's rest to play the Pioneers of Point Park, the Ohio Christian University Lady Trailblazers played a hard fought game on Monday afternoon. Despite scoring first on a score by Jaydon Hollstein (JR/Elida, OH), the Lady Trailblazers saw the Pioneers score three second half goals to take the 3-2 win.
Hollstein broke the scoring open in the 20th minute on a rebound from a deflected Mylie LaFountaine (SR/Port Orchard, WA) shot on goal. Leading 1-0, OCU went to the locker room with high spirits after a well-played 45 minutes.
Point Park did not stay silent, however, as three goals over a 21 minute stretch handed the Pioneers a 3-1 lead with 10 minutes remaining. Lafountaine converted on a second rebounded shot late in the second half to pull within one but failed to add another to tie the match.
The Lady Trailblazers matched up with the Pioneers in the stats department, with each team finishing with 10 shots on goal. In the end, key conversions on good looks made the difference, as the Pioneers had an assist on all three goals they scored.
"It's hard to let this one get away, but I'm happy about some of the chances we created," said Interim Head Coach Jocelyn Mantz. "We put a lot of pressure on them, but unfortunately our efforts fell short. We had energy and momentum going towards the end, with just a few more minutes I believe we would've tied it up again. In the end, I see progress for us in our performance this match and that's what we'll keep building on."
Next up, Ohio Christian will travel to face non-conference foe Shawnee State University on Thursday in Portsmouth, OH.
