Ohio Christian University (OCU) has launched a new Bachelor of Art in Human Services in response to demand from students in the School of Adult & Graduate Studies (AGS) where the online Associate of Arts degree program in Human Services is very popular with hundreds of students. Responding to requests for a bachelor’s degree in this broad discipline, the University established a new bachelor’s degree for all undergraduates—online and on-campus.
The human services discipline fits OCU’s faith-and-service-focused mission. The program’s faculty are experienced in the field and bring their hands-on expertise to the classrooms to deliver an enriched learning environment. The program equips graduates to enter the human services field with classroom knowledge and hands-on internship exposure to five interrelated disciplines: social services, criminal justice, human resources, substance abuse counseling, and psychology. With this degree, graduates are prepared to begin making a positive impact in their communities. The Human Services degree gives them opportunities to enter career fields into which they are called.
Program electives enable enrolled students to earn up to two minors, in either criminal justice, substance abuse counseling, or psychology. Graduates are prepared for entry-level positions in these fields, as they will have learned to think critically and solve real-life social problems. Human Services bachelor degree students experience a capstone course with a practicum in psychology or internships in criminal justice or substance abuse counseling.
“It’s a really flexible program,” explains Dr. Larry Olson, chair of the Psychology Department. “Students are already enrolling. They appreciate the opportunity to explore related fields which helps them decide their long-term career choices. We engage with our students to assist them in finding their callings, particularly in the context of their maturing Christian faith. Our faculty, including me, have been guided by our faith and understand the importance of being well-equipped to serve others effectively.”

With just three days before athletes move in to the dorms and the remainder
of students coming a week later, resident assistants (RA) had an active first
day on campus. The RA’s moved back into the dorms on Aug 7 and immediately

Ohio Christian University will host the fifth annual Forge Leadership Summit
on July 23-27. The five-day conference is the Forge Leadership Network’s
foundational event that on-ramps students into their yearlong mentorship
academy to develop the next generation of conservative leaders. Forge will
welcome 75-80 young adults to the summit where they will participate in
dynamic trainings, professional development programs and listen to over two
dozen renowned speakers on current issues.

Ohio Christian University was pleased to welcome 69 students to Orientation
Day 2019 on June 14. Incoming students started the morning doing activities
together where they had the opportunity to meet their fellow classmates.
After the students settled down, OCU Provost, Dr. Bradford Sample and Dr.
Valerie Jones, Teacher Education Department Chair, encouraged the new
students to pursue academic excellence and to, above all, grow in Christ.

On Saturday, May 4, 2019, Ohio Christian University held its 70th-year
Commencement Ceremonies at the university’s main campus in Circleville,
Ohio. There were 664 associate, bachelor, and master level graduates invited

OCU Now Offering English and History majors

Ohio Christian University students can now major or minor in English or
History. The programs were created because OCU is awaiting approval to
offer a Bachelor of Science in Education in Adolescence to Young Adult
Education (high school teacher education program) with majors in integrated
language arts, math, science, and social studies. The courses were already
created and the decision was made to offer these as stand-alone degrees. The
degrees are available to students in the Adult and Graduate Studies Program
or Residential Undergraduate Program.

CHILLICOTHE - The fair board took a gamble that appeared to pay off.
Thursday night's concert at the Ross County Fair was something the fair board
had never tried before. With the help of Ohio Christian University, it
brought two contemporary Christian bands, OCU's Ablaze and headliner Tenth
Avenue North, to the grandstand.
The grandstand was packed with more than 500 people of all ages cheering,
