LOGAN, OH – Saturday, February 6th, Ohio Christian University hosted the OCU Trailblazer Invitational at the Chieftain Center on Logan high schools' campus.
The meet welcomed 10 visiting schools from Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Carlow University won the women's title with 124 points while Midway University took the men's crown with 82.5 points.
The lady trailblazers finished third out of 11 schools with 49 points.
Morgan Maffett (SO/Pickerington, OH) led the team with a win in the weight throw. Her toss of 15.36 meters broke her own school record while moving up to 22nd in the national rankings. Maffett also placed second in the shot-put with a throw of 11.20 meters which is also a personal best.
Acacia May (SO/Valley View, OH) finished third in the 200 meters with a season best time of 27.97 seconds. She also ran a personal best in the 60-meter dash (8.64) which qualified her for the finals where she scored a point by placing eighth.
Gracie Lanier (SO/Scott Depot, WV) took fourth in both the 60-meter dash (8.50), which was a new personal record and the 200-meter dash (28.57).
The 4x400 meter relay team placed fourth in 4 minutes and 55.26 seconds. The team consisted of May, Lanier, Rachel Lomaka (JR/Pataskala, OH) and Monica Caldwell.
Imani Donovan (JR/North Olmsted, OH) was a fifth-place finisher in the weight throw with 10.71 meters.
Brittney Lenz ran a season best in the mile finishing sixth in a time of 6 minutes 2.28 seconds.
California Headlee (SO/Grove City, OH) qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 11.90 seconds. She would go on to finish seventh rounding out the lady scorers.
The men finished fifth out of 11 teams with 43 points.
The highlight of the men's side came from the 4x800 meter relay team who finished first with a time of 8 minutes 30.4 seconds. This time broke the previous school record of 8:32.38 from 2019 and has them ranked 22nd in the nation. The quartet consisted of Derek Donner (SO/Lebanon, OH), Corry Mientkiewicz, Chester Mientkiewicz (JR/Kinsman, OH) and Drake Dickerson (JR/Lancaster, OH).
Dickerson reduced his mile personal and school record down to a 4:28.13 in route to a runner up finish. This has him currently ranked 25th in the NAIA.
Andrew Smith ran in his first college track meet placing second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.26 seconds.
River Collins (JR/Akron, OH) threw a personal record in the weight throw of 12.30 meters. This placed him third.
Nathan Rose (SR/Hilliard, OH) won his section of the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.56 seconds while placing fourth overall.
Also finishing fourth was Chester Mientkiewicz in the 3,000-meter run. His time of 9 minutes 34.97 seconds was a personal record.
Rounding out the men's scoring was the 4x400 meter relay which scored a point. The squad consisted of Rose, Smith, Evan Caldwell and Elijah Newland (FR/Marysville, OH).
Ohio Christian University's next meet will be at the Mount Vernon Nazarene University Invitational Friday, February 12th.
