OCU Aesthetic Club, Movements from the Heart, hosted their first annual Worship Night in the new Ministry and Performing Arts Center on Friday, February 23. The performance comprised four choreographed routines, music from Michelle Martin and Kyle Benecke, a ‘spoken word’ by Gerald Mershimer, and a message by Tyler Freeman.
Featuring Amber Ginter and Anna Hambrick with paired members Amber Ginter/Eric Fahrer, Anna Hambrick/Phillip Goodson, Faith Monaghan/Ian Monaghan, Hannah Hostetler/Stephen Kibble, and Noelle Reif/Davi Pereira, the club perfected a god-honoring performance pleasing to the audience.
The performance conveyed self-reflection and worship of the Creator. An audience of over 200 voiced and applauded their appreciation of the vision expressed through the performance. Learning to ‘dance through the minefields of life’ was the theme.
Professor Scott Barr provided a devotional, examining the performance’s influence on him. Reflecting on Scripture shared through the dancing, he articulated how to apply worship, noting “In Romans 12: 6-7 we read that ‘we have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach.’ For those called to teaching, it is exciting to think we offer our energies and talents to God as a living sacrifice with thankfulness and joy. Are we viewing teaching the way God sees it, as an act of worship? How can that understanding influence our preparations and presentations? Is our teaching a ‘movement from the heart’?”
The event concluded with a fun finale. Dancers expressed joy accompanied by Justin Timberlake’s, “I got sunshine in my pocket, got that good song in my feet!” The dancers beamed as the curtain came down. Their joy was infectious among the audience.
Glorifying God through artistic expression, these performers shared the grace of the Kingdom and plan to host another event in April that will glorify the Holy Spirit.
