A pre-Teacher Education student was recently in my office to express enthusiastic gratitude for the valuable mentoring received from Courtney Teague, a sophomore in the OCU Middle Childhood Teacher Education program (with concentrations in Math and Science.)
Because of Courtney’s kindness, encouragement, mentoring, and teaching, the student who was struggling in a general education course, was able to pass the final exam three grade levels higher than on the previous two exams. Without Courtney’s pro-active invitation to study together, the student’s GPA would have been much lower than the final outcome.
Thank you so very much, Courtney! You have brought honor to a fellow-student, yourself, God, OCU and the Teacher Education Department by your actions.

Summer Institute Courses

This summer, Ohio Christian University is offering summer courses that will
help K-12 and undergraduate instructors work towards a graduate degree. The
institute gives instructors the opportunity to earn degrees and gain
knowledge in a shorter period of time.
Each course lasts for six weeks and counts as three credit hours. There will
be two separate six-week terms throughout the summer. The cost of these
graduate level classes is $990 per course. There is a simple application and
approval process for the program.

OCU Kappa Delta Pi Chapter Inducts 28 New Members

CIRCLEVILLE, OHIO—Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society
in Education, is pleased to announce that 28 preservice educators have been
invited and inducted into its membership through the Alpha Iota Sigma Chapter
of Ohio Christian University.
The initiation ceremony took place on April 9, 2019 at The Ministry and
Performing Arts Center. The ceremony opened with Dr. Hank Kelly, Provost at
Ohio Christian University, giving the welcome and prayer. Dr. Ann Shelly, of

The Ohio Department of Education recently recognized that OCU’s
Mild/Moderate Needs Intervention Specialist (K-12) bachelor’s program meets
the Chancellor’s requirements and State Board of Education standards for
bachelor degree programs that prepare graduates for Mild/Moderate Needs
Intervention Specialist (K-12) licensure. Enrollment into the new program
is now open.

Trauma Informed Care Training Hits Needs Head-On

On June 4 and 5, Ohio Christian University hosted over 150 participants
attending the Southern Ohio Trauma Informed Care Training.
OCU undergraduate and graduate teacher education students as well as area
educators, pastors, administrators, and social workers listened to
informative sessions covering topics ranging from classroom teaching to
social work case management. They engaged in dynamic discussions, break-out
activities and tasks that raised questions and prompted fresh thinking by
even the most inquisitive participants.

Adolescence to Young Adult majors (grades 7-12) take a course within our
program called “Instructional Techniques for Teaching AYA Learners with
Exceptionalities” in which they are placed with an Intervention Specialist
and learn instructional methods for students with disabilities and also with
giftedness.
This class is only one reason why our AYA program is different from others.
Our students are often treated to guest speakers who provide real-world and
first-hand information that our students will be able use as they teach.
