OCU Graduate Update - Allyson Jones image

Allyson is a 2016 graduate, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education (PreK-3). Allyson is now a 2nd grade teacher at the International School of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and loving every minute of it!  Allyson completed her student teaching at IST as part of our new Student Teaching Abroad program. IST is a private Christian school in the capitol city.  Allyson lives with other teachers and spends many of her weekends going on exciting trips in the rainforests, waterfalls, and to the beach as well as all the normal things like shopping and going to the movies and, of course, working on her lesson plans and grading! During summer break, Dr. Valerie Jones, Teacher Education Chair and Dr. Jeanne Bruce, Associate Professor, traveled with five pre-service educators to Helsinki, Finland, and Stockholm, Sweden to study the top-two school systems in the world. The group was able to tour a Finnish grade school to observe their curriculum and instruction and speak with the students and teachers. Over the past several years under the leadership of now former department chair Valerie Wilson, the Teacher Education program experienced accelerated growth, quickly becoming the second largest program at OCU.   At Ohio Christian University, we strive to cultivate an attitude of gratitude in our students, and as the school year started we wanted to take a moment to thank our community’s teachers. So last week, Ohio Christian University’s teacher education students showed their thanks to Pickaway County’s educators as they formed an assembly line to package nearly 650 gifts of appreciation for every teacher in the county. What did you like best about attending OCU? I enjoyed rubbing shoulders with other men and women who are passionate about their faith and their studies, and I loved how the professors truly cared about their subject matter and us as students. What program/location were you enrolled in? Masters in Ministry (Pastoral Counseling Program) onsite campus in Circleville Was there a class or professor that impacted your life? Professor Bill Ury (Theology of John Wesley) - He truly made Theology a delight to learn, and I could tell that he truly lives by what he believes.
