OCU Now Offering Grades 7-12 Teacher Education Major

Ohio Christian University is now offering an Adolescence to Young Adult Teacher Education Program to equip students to teach grades 7 through 12. OCU will be offering the major in the areas of Integrated Language Arts, Integrated Mathematics, and Integrated Social Studies, with plans to add Integrated Science in the future.

OCU now has programs to train teachers for young children through high school seniors. All programs are fully accredited and allow graduates to teach in a public or private school setting.

The Teacher Education Program goes above and beyond in making sure graduates are prepared and equipped for the classroom.

“We get our students into the classroom as early as freshman year,” said Valerie Jones, OCU Teacher Education Department Chair. “While the state only requires 100 hours, our program supplies 235 hours of field experience in the classroom before student teaching.”

By the time OCU students graduate, they will have over 800 hours of experience in the classroom! In addition to the experience, the teaching methods are also taught with a hands-on philosophy.

Graduates have a 93% pass rate the first time taking teacher licensure exams and 98% are employed in a school system.

The Teacher Education Program also has a partnership with a school in Honduras if students want to do their student teaching abroad.
