PITTSBURGH, PA – Following a closely contested three point victory at home earlier in the season, the Ohio Christian University Trailblazers could not buy a bucket on Saturday, as the Pioneers of Point Park University evened the season series at one a piece with a 80-46 win on Saturday.
Ohio Christian's largest drought would come in the second half, as the Pioneers opened the second half strong on a 24-3 run that would distance them from their opponent. Ohio Christian eventually slowed down the pace and was able to get some quality offensive sets, but ultimately could not overcome their scoring slump.
Overall, the Trailblazers were held to 17-64 shooting despite multiple open looks. Justin Barksdale (SO/Fishers, IN) led the team with nine points, followed by Keason Lowe (SO/Grove City, OH) with eight. Tolu Telli (FR/Lanham, MD) and Ben Casey (FR/West Jefferson, OH) each provided six points off the bench.
"Unfortunately, today was one of those days when we could not buy a basket," said Head Coach Casey Coons. "We felt like we had a lot of clean looks that didn't go. Once we went through a scoring drought, it affected our energy at the defensive end and they put it on us. Give a ton of credit to Point Park for executing at both ends of the floor. We will clean things up and be ready to go in the conference tournament."
After clinching their postseason spot earlier in the week, Ohio Christian will travel to face Indiana University Southeast on Wednesday in the River States Conference Quarterfinals. IU Southeast enters the tournament as the #1 seed in the West division.
