MIDWAY, KY – Following a road loss on Saturday to Indiana University Kokomo, the Ohio Christian University Lady Trailblazers returned to action on Tuesday night facing the Eagles of Midway University on the road.
Riding a hot start on the offensive end, the Eagles sprinted out of the gates to take an early 11 point lead in the first quarter. Following a 23-point first quarter, the Eagles added 21 more in the second quarter to build a 14 point halftime lead.
In the second half, Ohio Christian began to slow down the Eagles' attack, but a tough shooting night offensively held the Lady Trailblazers from narrowing the deficit. In the final 10 minutes, Ohio Christian outscored Midway 14-13, as the Eagles held on for the 73-58 win.
Freshman Rachel Gillum (FR/Springboro, OH) put together the best night for the Lady Trailblazers, grabbing 12 boards to go with 20 points and four assists. Helaina Limas (SO/Medina, OH) was Ohio Christian's second leading scorer with 12, while Staci Pertuset (SR/West Union, OH) finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
"We struggled scoring the ball tonight and that really hurt us," said Head Coach Brenda Baker. "We have a tough stretch of games ahead, so we have to come into every game and practice focused and ready to compete."
Ohio Christian's next matchup will be a home game against Brescia University on Thursday evening in the Maxwell Center. Tip off is scheduled for 5:00 PM EST.
