

On Friday, October 10th, the Ohio Christian University Career Services Department presented training for 117 work-study students called the Basics of Employment. This training covered essential information to help students be successful in their jobs. The three-hour training presented topics that focused on transferable and personal skills that students will carry over into their careers.Some of the topics covered were:The impact of their role in upholding the University missionThe impact of tardiness and absenteeismThe impact of lost productivity employers incur while students are participating in personal social media on work timeThe importance of time management and teamworkThe importance of following the chain of commandDress, customer service, leadership, and many other topics were included; all vital tools helping students build a solid work ethic, making them better employees not only of OCU but also in their future careers.The idea was actually initiated by the administrative assistants to the vice presidents when they began identifying common basic skills that students didn’t understand about work place success. The administrative assistants met with Career Services and helped format the training topics.Students employed in work-study jobs who couldn’t participate in the training will be required to attend on another date.

Ohio Christian University will host the fifth annual Forge Leadership Summit
on July 23-27. The five-day conference is the Forge Leadership Network’s
foundational event that on-ramps students into their yearlong mentorship
academy to develop the next generation of conservative leaders. Forge will
welcome 75-80 young adults to the summit where they will participate in
dynamic trainings, professional development programs and listen to over two

Government recently took a trip to Alabama to learn about careers in the
sports business field, and network with professionals in the industry. Just a
few of the businesses that students had the opportunity to visit were The
United States Sports Academy, SEC headquarters, and Reese’s Senior Bowl.

Ohio Christian University’s School of Business & Government® hosted its
seventh annual Small Business Round Table on Tuesday, November 14th, 2017.
Over eighty OCU students and five business executives, most of whom own small
businesses, discussed what it takes to start and manage a small business and
how to stay successful.
Discussants on this year’s roundtable included Mike Cessna, owner of My
Auto Care; Chris Farrell, owner of Farrell Fit; Jim Cook, owner of Cooks
Creek Golf Club; and Megan VanBuskirk and Ana Purpero, owners of Paper City
Coffee.

Prof. Monty Lobb Speaks at Ukrainian Celebration of Reformation

Professor Monty Lobb traveled to Kiev, Ukraine to speak at the 500th
anniversary celebration of the Reformation in early November. In greeting to
assembly, he spoke about the importance of integrating Christian character
into personal relationships to build better community. He also presented on
the value of a Christian education in a program session.
For two days Ukrainians listened to pastors, members of parliament, cabinet
ministers, and foreign guests share and worshipped, led by praise bands from
across Ukraine and the Ukrainian National Symphony and Chorus.

OCU Business Students Visit the New York Stock Exchange
A group of Ohio Christian University (OCU) Business and Government students
visited Wall Street, Bloomberg Headquarters, the United Nations, and Mizuho
Securities this fall. Students attended a Financial Crisis Tour where they
learned firsthand what happens inside the New York Stock Exchange. The tour
was led by Wall Street veterans who explained the difference between a CDO
and a CDS, investment strategies which they said contributed to the economic
collapse in 2008. Students also saw the New York Stock Exchange, Federal

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Ohio Christian University is pleased to announce that
Dr. Monty Lobb will assume the duties of Dean of the School of Business and
Government on June 1, 2016, upon Dr. Dave Garrison’s retirement. Dr.
Garrison will now become Dean Emeritus, which is a lifelong appointment.
Dr. Monty Lobb, OCU professor since 2012 and former Assistant Secretary of
State of Ohio, holds his J.D. from University of Dayton School of Law, his
B.A. from Olivet Nazarene University, and he also earned undergraduate
credits from New College at the University of Oxford. Dr. Lobb is president

had the opportunity to speak with various community leaders at the annual
Corporate Roundtable. A panel of five experienced businessmen and women were
on the panel, offering advice to upcoming graduates looking to succeed in the
corporate world.
“Patience is one of the largest derailments I’ve seen people struggle
