Ohio Christian University students had the opportunity to go on a mission trip this year to Paraguay as one of OCU’s WGM Task Force Teams. Andrea Williamson, Student Involvement Director for WGM, led the team and stayed with them through the duration of the trip.
“I knew right away that this was the team God planned for me to lead. There were no lightening bolts, no clear direction other than this was the one.” – Andrea Williamson
The university team members consisted of five students: Austin Caldwell, Barbee Graves, Haley Robbins, Austin St. Pierre, and Kiirsten Truex. Raising the funds to go to Paraguay was in some ways challenging for the group, and many had to ask tough questions.
Andrea Williamson wrote that, “in the span of three hours, the remaining $1200 was given by multiple people. God is faithful!”
During their time in Paraguay, the team had the privilege of participating in Iglesia Evangelica Mundial (WGM) church services at Buenas Nuevas, Cristo Viene and Nueva Esperanza, two chapel services at the international Asuncion Christian Academy (ACA), and painting a very long wall for Escuela No. 281—a school for grades K-12 in the Herrera neighborhood of Asuncion. WGM Missionaries also joined them at different times throughout the week, and the team was able to communicate with those they ministered through unique ways and a Spanish-speaking student.
Together the students challenged each other to be better Christ-followers while they were together: “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”

Lest We Forget Honors the Fallen

Lest We Forget returned to Ohio Christian University to remember those who
lost their lives 18 years ago on 9/11 when terrorists hijacked commercial
airliners and struck down the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New
York and damaged the Pentagon. The event honored the first responders who
sacrificed themselves to save others on that fateful day and the military
service members who answered their nation's call to fight against terrorism.
In the 9/11 attacks, almost 3,000 innocent civilians lost their lives, over
400 firefighters and police died during rescue operations, and

Ohio Christian Atlanta Site Students Honor Caregivers

A group of three students at the Ohio Christian University Atlanta site, as
part of a project management class, chose to plan and host their own event
honoring caregivers. In the course of five weeks, the students developed a
charter, raised community support, and organized a black and white dinner for
over 40 caregivers and nurses in the Atlanta area.
“For the way they started and the way they finished in that class time, I
was just truly amazed,” their professor, Selena Buchanan, said.

Ohio Christian Hosts Youth Explosion

Ohio Christian University was happy to host the Youth Explosion camp on July
25 through 28. The camp was organized by the Marion Christian Center’s
Youth Ministry. The event was meant to provide the opportunity to experience
God in a real and impactful way.
“This year, the theme is that God made them special and how to discover
their gifts and talents to glorify Him” said Marion Christian Center Lead
Pastor Perry Payne.
Each day of camp kicked off with a student led devotional going over the
Beatitudes of Jesus followed by real life breakout sessions. After lunch,

The 2019 Summer Institute took place on June 3-7. The Ohio Christian
University Teacher Education Department partnered with Circleville City
Schools, Pickaway County Board of Developmental Disabilities, and Pickaway
County ESC to design an institute that would benefit many educators.
Courses offered for graduate credit included Trauma Informed Care Training
II, Orton-Gillingham Training, and Google Classroom Training.

2018 Community Action Day Delivers a Win-Win!

Ohio Christian University students practiced service-above-self on their
Ralph C. Starkey Community Action Day (CAD) again this year, vitalizing the
University’s mission of benefiting others through acts of service that
build and strengthen character.
Students contributed their time and energy in 26 projects ranging from
singing in nursing homes to clearing a golf course after the Scioto River
flooded many of its fairways and holes.
Student teams cleaned front yards, beatified parks and downtown streets,
washed windows, mulched yards and flowerbeds, and cleaned out barns, creating

Instructional Techniques for Teaching AYA Learners with Exceptionalities

Adolescence to Young Adult majors (grades 7-12) take a course within our
program called “Instructional Techniques for Teaching AYA Learners with
Exceptionalities” in which they are placed with an Intervention Specialist
and learn instructional methods for students with disabilities and also with
giftedness.
This class is only one reason why our AYA program is different from others.
Our students are often treated to guest speakers who provide real-world and
first-hand information that our students will be able use as they teach.

information. There was also an announcement of European trip to Finland and
Sweden in May 2019. Current and future education students will have the
opportunity to travel to Finnish and Swedish schools to observe and interact
with their students and educational settings that are considered to be #1 in
the world, as well as sightsee and experience the culture during their time
there.

in Tim Tebow Foundation’s Night to Shine in Circleville Vineyard Church in
February. The event gave opportunities to show love and support to those
with disabilities.
Night to Shine is a prom where everyone can participate, delivering fun,
dancing, music, food, and normalcy. Created to embrace those with
exceptionalities so that they feel loved and special, the event enables
participants to show kindness in the spirit of Christian faith.
