OCU Education Students Honor Local Teachers with 650 Gifts of Appreciation

At Ohio Christian University, we strive to cultivate an attitude of gratitude in our students, and as the school year started we wanted to take a moment to thank our community’s teachers. So last week, Ohio Christian University’s teacher education students showed their thanks to Pickaway County’s educators as they formed an assembly line to package nearly 650 gifts of appreciation for every teacher in the county.

Each gift contained:

  • A coffee mug
  • Coffee
  • A personal note of encouragement from President Smith

According to Valerie Jones, Chair of the Teacher Education Department, the time spent making these gifts was “a great experience for the student to see that teachers are appreciated” adding, “Teaching is often a thankless job. You just [normally] don’t hear a ‘thank you’. [What the students did] was very giving of them.”

An Introduction to Teacher Education class of 31 students packaged the coffee and mugs in mass production style with an emphasis on quality and care.

Each gift contained a personal note from President Dr. Smith, thanking the teachers for their consideration, patience, and time with their students, as well as letting them know that we are praying for them and their school year.

The gifts were distributed the next day to the school districts of Logan Elm, Circleville, Westfall, New Hope, Crossroad, and Teays Valley.

Teachers change the world one day — one student — at a time. Thank you, Teachers, for all you do.
