National Nurse Week, sometimes known as National RN Recognition Day, begins today and runs from May 6- May 12, 2016, and since OCU graduated its first class of nurses at a pinning ceremony on April 30 — we'd like to thank all of the nurses out there for everything you do!
Ohio Christian University wants to take this week to honor our nurses and our nursing students. If you see a nurse this week, thank them for their hard work and diligence in their field. Nurses—we couldn’t do it without you!
National Nurse Week exists to acknowledge all nurses and their important role in society. The week is in honor of Florence Nightingale who was an English social reformer, statistician and the founder of modern nursing. Nightingale was especially known for her aid of wounded soldiers during the Crimean War, and was later nicknamed “The Lady with the Lamp” due to her consistent rounds late at night. Later in 1974, National Nurse Week was officially declared by President Nixon, and has since expanded by the ANA Board of Directors.
