A flurry of athletics activity ensued over the weekend on Ohio Christian University's (OCU) campus as OCU hosted a regional training for referees, a local clinic for school-aged children looking to improve their softball skills, and some sporting events as well. In addition to playing host, the conference recognized one OCU athlete as Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the week. Details of this weekend's activities follow:

Ohio Christian University hosts 2018-19 Referee In-Service

On Sunday, September 23, OCU had the unique privilege of hosting the 2018 Fall Men's Basketball In-Service for referees at both the NCAA and NAIA levels.

Mike Eades, who has been a referee at the NCAA level for multiple seasons and has covered a Final Four, ran the event. Eades currently serves as the men's basketball assigner for the River States Conference.

The day of training consisted of a review of policies and procedures, along with information on new rule changes taking effect in the 2018-19 season. Close to 100 referees from surrounding states attended.

Softball Skill Clinic Hosts Young Athletes

The OCU Lady Trailblazer Softball program hosted a skills clinic on September 22, 2018, for young athletes eager to improve their skill set. The clinic was run by the 2018-19 Lady Trailblazer roster with the help of the coaching staff.

Overall, 29 athletes attended. The day consisted of hitting, pitching, and fielding drills each centered around developing basic skills in each athlete. Players received individual attention from a Lady Trailblazer to help make the day special.

Lady Trailblazers Defend Home Turf and Shut Out Asbury

Entering Saturday's soccer match with the Eagles from Asbury University, the Lady Trailblazers came prepared to face the team that eliminated them from the post-season tournament last year. The Lady Trailblazers earned a solid win with  Brooke Lezotte  landing two shots and Brooke Wilhite adding a late score to put the game away for good, with a final score of 3-0.

In the net,  Emily Boyd kept the Eagles off the scoreboard, saving all seven shot attempts by Asbury. With the win, the Lady Trailblazers find themselves sitting at the top of the River States Conference standings with a 2-0 conference record.

Lezotte Scores RSC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

OCU forward  Brooke Lezotte  scored 11 points in two games to receive River States Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 17-23.
