Ohio Christian Hosts Youth Explosion

Ohio Christian University was happy to host the Youth Explosion camp on July
25 through 28. The camp was organized by the Marion Christian Center’s
Youth Ministry. The event was meant to provide the opportunity to experience
God in a real and impactful way.
“This year, the theme is that God made them special and how to discover
their gifts and talents to glorify Him” said Marion Christian Center Lead
Pastor Perry Payne.
Each day of camp kicked off with a student led devotional going over the
Beatitudes of Jesus followed by real life breakout sessions. After lunch,

Ohio Christian University welcomed Kids on Campus — a summer enrichment
program for first through fourth graders that allows them to experience
academic life on a college campus, while improving their math, science,
art, and technology skills — for the 13th consecutive.
The program is a partnership with Pickaway WORKS and Ohio Christian
University with generous support from others as well.
Campus rarely lacks youthful exuberance, but having Kids on Campus brought a
child-rich energy. It wasn’t just the adults who enjoyed having the kids
around; the kids had fun too.

Community Action Day - It was a GREAT Day!

April 11th proved to not just be a nice day to be outside, but a great day to
serve the community of Circleville and surrounding areas. In its 20thyear,
Community Action Day brought out over 400 students to serve residents and
businesses who were in need. A tradition at Ohio Christian University,
classes were canceled, and students were able to go into the public and
implement the service attitude taught at OCU.
With help from Volunteer Economy and RPHF Solid Waste District, students were
equipped to effectively serve and feel prepared to do so. Students served in
various capacities

Second Annual Youth Leadership Conference

Over fifty youth leaders from more than thirty churches and organizations
converged on the Ohio Christian University campus for the second annual Youth
Leadership Conference. Anticipation for the conference was met with engaging
and relevant information applicable to those in attendance. The subject
of the day was the importance of actively engaging youth with the reality of
Biblical Truth in these formative years. Dr. Walt Mueller, expert in youth
culture and President of the Center for Parent/Youth Understanding, began the
conference with a dive into youth culture and practical ways

OCU Professor Leads Student Research Teams in Ghana, West Africa

Teams of students led by Prof. Matt Decker, Assistant Professor of Psychology
and Counseling, are gaining valuable experience in the field. Last year nine
OCU students joined Prof. Decker on a research trip to Ghana, West Africa.
Their goal was to research rates of mental health symptoms among West
Africans and to assess the level of Psychological Flexibility among
Ghanaians. In May 2014, Decker and 12 OCU undergraduates returned to Ghana to
continue the research and practice the skills they’ve learned in the
classroom.

Amanda Grooms, a now mom of four, expected to walk across the stage and
graduate with her bachelor’s degree from Ohio Christian University last
weekend. However, complications resulted in her being hospitalized on
bed-rest for the duration of her pregnancy, so she was unable to realize her
dream of walking at graduation.
Knowing how important it was to her, a group of Ohio Christian University
officials secretly planned a surprise mini-commencement at Grant Medical
Center on Friday, April 22.

Ohio Christian University is blessed with an outstanding faculty and staff
who not only impact OCU students, but are also actively influencing their
academic disciplines nationally. Earlier this year, Dr. Krista Stonerock,
Writing Center Director and Professor of English at the main campus in
Circleville, was selected to serve on the McGraw Hill Freshman Composition
Symposium in Boca Raton, Florida. Additionally, in March of this year, Dr.
Stonerock was asked to serve on a panel at the College Composition and
Communication national conference in Las Vegas, NV where she met with 15
