Ohio Christian Partners to Serve Community

Ohio Christian University will hold its 21st annual Ralph C. Starkey
Community Action Day on Oct 9. The event historically sends out over 400
students, faculty and staff into the community of Circleville and the
surrounding area to serve those in need. This year, Ohio Christian has
partnered with United Way of Pickaway County to expand the reach and scope by
coordinating and bringing together the organizations individual efforts to
serve the community.
Ohio Christian has traditionally held Community Action Day in the spring but
switched to fall this year so the day would coincide with

Ohio Christian Welcomes the Abiding Class

Ohio Christian University campus welcomed the class of 2023 to campus on
Saturday, August 17. Over 100 students and their parents converged on campus,
organizing dorm rooms, attending meetings and hugging farewells.
As the students were occupied, Ohio Christian President Dr. Jon Kulaga and
his wife, Lena, met with the parents over coffee. The Kulagas advised them on
how to effectively support their student as they transition to college life
and assured the parents that their students would be well cared for.

With just three days before athletes move in to the dorms and the remainder
of students coming a week later, resident assistants (RA) had an active first
day on campus. The RA’s moved back into the dorms on Aug 7 and immediately
got to know one another through team building activities.
For the male RAs this began with a “Wild West” name learning game
complete with finger six-shooters. After demonstrating who had the fastest
name learning skills in the west, Resident Director Kasey Summerer led them

Ohio Christian to Host Fifth Annual Forge Leadership Summit

Ohio Christian University will host the fifth annual Forge Leadership Summit
on July 23-27. The five-day conference is the Forge Leadership Network’s
foundational event that on-ramps students into their yearlong mentorship
academy to develop the next generation of conservative leaders. Forge will
welcome 75-80 young adults to the summit where they will participate in
dynamic trainings, professional development programs and listen to over two
dozen renowned speakers on current issues.

As a senior, I often hear excited, uncertain freshmen asking: "Excuse me, do
you know where Room CE201 is?”, "Have you ever had Professor X?", "Is she
as intimidating as everyone says?", "How do I know what to major in?", "Why
doesn't this guy who seems perfect for me text me back?" My answers,
respectively, are: “Yes, yes, and yes. But, she's awesome. Don't worry.
You will figure it out. I am not one to give ‘guy advice’, but maybe God
is telling you he isn't ‘the one’?”

OCU Now Offering English and History majors

Ohio Christian University students can now major or minor in English or
History. The programs were created because OCU is awaiting approval to
offer a Bachelor of Science in Education in Adolescence to Young Adult
Education (high school teacher education program) with majors in integrated
language arts, math, science, and social studies. The courses were already
created and the decision was made to offer these as stand-alone degrees. The
degrees are available to students in the Adult and Graduate Studies Program
or Residential Undergraduate Program.

CHILLICOTHE - The fair board took a gamble that appeared to pay off.
Thursday night's concert at the Ross County Fair was something the fair board
had never tried before. With the help of Ohio Christian University, it
brought two contemporary Christian bands, OCU's Ablaze and headliner Tenth
Avenue North, to the grandstand.
The grandstand was packed with more than 500 people of all ages cheering,
clapping and even at times dancing along to the music. The high-energy lead

Ablaze will open for Tenth Avenue North at the Ross County Fair in
Chillicothe, Ohio.The student group travels the region bringing its
distinctive sound to churches, schools, youth events and more. Their
