Follow Christ, Lead the Way

WESTERVILLE, OH- The Trailblazers fought hard against the Grenadiers of IU Southeast and the Celtics of Carlow (PA), but ultimately fell short of the win at the Worthington Christian Tennis Courts.

OCU had a tough going against IU Southeast. For doubles, both pairs on the men's and women's sides lost in 0-6 sweeps. For singles, it was much of the same, as everyone lost their pro sets either 0-8 or 1-8 on both sides.

The bright side came for our women's team against Carlow, as just about every match was either close or won. The women were just 6 total games from a win. The first doubles pairing of Kiley Staley (SO/Harrod, OH) and Rebecca Strawser (SR/Gahanna, OH) lost in a close 6-4 match that came down the last few points. Much of the same ensued for the second doubles pairing of Gabriella Egbert (FR/Lucasville, OH) and Kara Velte (SR/Germantown, OH) also losing 6-4 in a tight contest. At 2nd singles, Rebecca had a strong showing and took her opponent to deuce each of the two deciding games, but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-4. Kara also had a very strong first set, but, in the end, fell 6-4, 6-1 at 4th singles. Our two bright spots of the day came at 1st and 3rd singles, as Kiley and Gabriella both took their first career college singles wins. Kiley won in a comeback victory at 1st singles, dropping the first set 1-6 and being down 1-4 in the second set, but coming back and leading 5-4, before her opponent forfeited. Gabriella won in a decisive victory at 3rd singles, handling her opponent 6-2, 6-1 in dominant fashion.

The Trailblazers next competition comes on Tuesday as the men and women travel to Franklin, IN, to play Franklin College in a non-conference matchup.
