Missions Emphasis Week kicked off on November first on the Ohio Christian University campus in Circleville, Ohio, with Taste of Nations. The event that highlighted ten international students who created food dishes from their home countries to serve to their fellow students. Dishes included delicacies from multiple countries in Africa, South America, and Asia.
When asked what she liked about the event, Isabella Diaz ('24) said “Being in an area where we don’t experience a lot of cultures, it helped me to be more connected to the other students when I was submerged into their lived cultures.”
Another student, Angie Ordonez ('23) said “I just like how something as simple as food can bring people from different cultures together.”
There was not a consensus on which dish was the tastiest because the students loved them all. “This event opened my eyes and made me aware of the many cultures at OCU. I also noticed that the foods from the countries in the same continent are all different. When you try another country’s food, you realize it is deeper than food and is another way of connecting and learning about another person on a deeper level,” said another student. The event saw over 60 students and staff attend and enjoy the great dishes provided by Ohio Christian’s international students.
The WGM Intercultural Student Center staff are already hard at work planning the Spring version of this event for April 2022!
