Ohio Christian University President Saunders has introduced a five-fold vision for the future of OCU, outlining key areas of focus as the university continues its mission of preparing students to serve Christ and lead with purpose.
Rooted in OCU’s commitment to developing “Oaks of Righteousness” from Isaiah 61:3, the vision focuses on expanding academic opportunities, developing godly leaders, engaging today’s culture, and preparing students for a changing world.
The five areas of focus include:
1. Grow Vocational Ministry Programs
OCU will continue developing programs that prepare students for vocational ministry, with an emphasis on pastoral, cross-cultural, and worship ministry. This priority reflects the university’s commitment to equipping men and women to serve and strengthen the Church. Ephesians 4:11-12
2. Grow Avocational Ministry Programs
Recognizing that ministry extends beyond traditional church roles, OCU plans to grow programs in social and behavioral science, education, and business. These areas prepare students to live out their faith and make an impact through their everyday work and communities. Ephesians 2:10
3. Develop Students Who Are Godly Leaders
Leadership development remains central to the OCU experience. The university seeks to develop students who grow in wisdom, character, and their relationship with God while becoming leaders prepared to serve others. Luke 2:52
4. Develop Students Who Engage the Culture
OCU is committed to preparing students to understand and thoughtfully engage the world around them. Students will be equipped to communicate and defend their faith with gentleness and respect while bringing a Christ-centered perspective into their communities and professions. 1 Peter 3:15
5. Implement Artificial Intelligence Degrees and Programs
As technology continues to reshape education and the workforce, OCU plans to implement degrees and programs focused on artificial intelligence, preparing students to enter emerging fields while remaining grounded in a biblical worldview. Joshua 8:1
Together, these five priorities provide a framework for OCU’s continued growth while remaining firmly rooted in the university’s mission. Through new opportunities, intentional leadership development, and a commitment to biblical truth, OCU will continue preparing students to become “Oaks of Righteousness” who make a lasting impact in their churches, careers, families, and communities.
