WORSHIP LEADERSHIP MINOR 18 HOURS

MUSIC THEORY8 HOURS

  • Continuation from Music Fundamentals, including study of chords in major and minor keys, voice leading, beginning four-part writing, and harmonic progressions.
    Offered: Fall Prerequisite: MU102 Music Fundamentals with a C or higher, successful music theory placement exam, or consent of the instructor

MU103 requires either a satisfactory score on the Music Theory Placement Exam or completion of MU102 as an additional course to this curriculum.

  • Continuation of MU103, including study of cadences, phrases and periods, non-chord tones, diatonic seventh chords, and secondary dominant chords.
    Offered: Spring Prerequisite: MU103 with a grade of C or higher
  • Study and practice to develop the skill of accurately sight-reading melodies through the solfege system and melodic dictation.
    Offered: Fall Prerequisite: MU102 or successful music theory placement exam
  • Continuation of MU105.
    Offered: Spring Prerequisite: MU105 with a grade of C or higher.

WORSHIP LEADERSHIP7 HOURS

  • Continuation of MU106.
    Offered: Fall Prerequisite: MU106 or successful music theory placement exam
  • A biblical understanding of who God is, and how He has chosen to relate with people, especially those he has redeemed. The course will focus on implications for worship ministries in the local church.
    Offered: Spring Prerequisite: None
  • The ministryand calling of a worship leader, including current leadership and ministry practices, an introduction to worship planning, and a survey of biblical and historical foundations of worship. Overview of the OCU Worship Leadership program, including typical career opportunities. Weekly 1-hour field experience component is required.

PROFESSIONAL ENGAGEMENT0 HOURS

  • Professional association for Worship Leadership students. Includes student leadership development, community engagement, and participation in professional enrichment opportunities provided by OCU and others.

  • WL108-208 Field Experience Sequence (2 semesters)0
  • Demonstrated mastery of the program goals and content. Preparation and leadership for a 25- or 50-minute worship event.
