All-MOCAL Senior Derek Vaughn Signs With Trailblazers

GROVE CITY, OH - Derek Vaughn has signed his letter of intent to play basketball at Ohio Christian University.  The senior from Grove City Christian signed on the dotted line at a special ceremony in front of teammates and family at GCCS.

Derek has been a cornerstone for the Eagles over the last three seasons, leading the team in scoring and rebounding during his sophomore, junior, and senior years.  Vaughn earned team MVP honors during his junior and senior seasons while racking up career numbers of 983 points and 486 rebounds.

A versatile scorer, Vaughn was named 1st Team All-MOCAL as a senior while also taking home All-District honors.  He was also voted by Central Ohio coaches to play in the 2013 Central Ohio All-Star Game.  Vaughn has been able to score in bunches, hitting the 30 point mark on several occassions, including a 30 point effort against Berne Union and a 31 point and 13 rebound performance against Fairfield Christian.

Vaughn led his team to a 57-49 playoff win against Wellington High School back in February.  Vaughn went for a game high 25 points against the heavily favored Wellington.

"Derek is a competitor to the core," commented OCU Head Coach Tony Stockman.  "We are eager to begin working with him this summer and push him to new limits both physically and mentally.  He is a local grown talent from our own backyard in Ashville, Ohio and we are glad to have him on board."

Vaughn joins an NCCAA powerhouse in Ohio Christian that is fresh off of their first NCCAA National Championship.  OCU went 22-0 in their division this year, defeating Arlington Baptist for the 2013 NCCAA Title.
