Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students

The following information is provided to comply with the Department of Education's CARES Act, CRRSA Act, and American Rescue Plan Reporting requirements. This information is limited to Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students funding and does not include grant programs utilizing institutional funds.

Ohio Christian University submitted a Funding Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriation Act (CRRSAA), and the American Rescue Plan (ARP) to the Department of Education. Pursuant to these agreements, Ohio Christian University assures that the institution has allocated the applicable amount of funds designated to the institution are being used to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

Ohio Christian University was allocated $5,618,451 from the U.S. Department of Education pursuant to the Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students from the CARES Act, the CRRSA Act, and ARP. The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students as of October 10th, 2022 is $5,618,451. As of today, Ohio Christian University has expended all Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds to students. The total number of students at the institution eligible to participate in programs, and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under the CARES Act, the CRRSA Act, and ARP is 2,341. The total number of students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant is 1,707. Ohio Christian University has exhausted all HEERF funds and these numbers are final.

Ohio Christian University established an application process for students to request funds for their expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child-care expenses. The Emergency Grant Form was emailed and accessible online to all eligible students. Award amounts are determined by Ohio Christian University based upon an individualized review of the student emergency grant application in accordance with guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Education. For funds allocated to the institution specifically through the American Rescue Plan, award amounts are determined by Ohio Christian University based upon an individualized review of the student’s financial need in accordance with guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Education. As of October 10th, 2022, the average amount awarded to a student is $3,291.42.

Ohio Christian University announced the availability of emergency grants in email messages sent to all eligible students, and the university alert system was also used to communicate emergency grant availability to eligible students. The financial aid office has also been in communication with students about the required use of these funds and the necessary expenses that relate to these emergency grants. This will be our final report for the student portion of COVID relief.
